Hi friends! My name is Amy Pirkle, and I'm a book artist living and working in Alabama. I teach book arts, design, and interdisciplinary studies at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. I taught for the University of Georgia's study abroad program in Cortona, Italy in 2019, and taught at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina in 2010 & 2011.

I hold a bachelor's degree in studio art from Mercer University (Macon, GA), and an MFA (Masters of Fine Arts) in Book Arts from The University of Alabama. My work resides in over 60 permanent collections across the United States, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Meridian Museum of Art, and Yale University's Robert B. Haas Special Collections.

As a flipbook artist I've received commissions from Amazon Prime, McDonalds, Crayola, the BBC, Candy Crush, NBCUniversal, Best Western, Callaway Golf, The American Red Cross, and Fairlife Milk among others. Although I am formally trained as a fine press printer and bookbinder, my recent work has shifted toward animation and video. I'm still a book artist at heart, though, and as a book artist, I have two primary goals for my work: the first is creating a narrative for the viewer, and the second is connecting with my audience in a sincere way. With flipbooks, I found the medium that perfectly married my two goals of creating narrative and connecting with an audience.
